JLPT N5 Vocabulary
Ru-verbs are verbs where you remove「る」and add endings directly.
Example:
たべる → たべます
Many ru-verbs end with IRU or ERU in romaji.
⚠️ Important note
Not all verbs ending in IRU / ERU are ru-verbs.
Some of them are u-verbs, so be careful.
U-verbs change their final sound before adding endings.
Example:
のむ → のみます
U-verbs often end with sounds like:
U / KU / GU / SU / TSU / NU / BU / MU / RU
⚠️ Important note
Some verbs ending with RU are u-verbs,
even though they look similar to ru-verbs.
